Jeanette Shabazz, Ph.D, NP-C, was born in Long Island, New York and raised in New Jersey.  She received her first degree in Information Technology  (IT) from Ramapo College of New Jersey. She worked as a software engineer and IT professional for over 20 years. After her 20-year career as an information technologist professional, Dr. Shabazz moved to sunny Mississippi, where she began her healthcare career. She completed her PhD in nursing education and administration in 2015. Her dissertation was “End of Life Health Care Disparities as Experienced by Healthcare Providers.”

She is currently the CEO and nurse practitioner for BAZ Family Medical Clinic which is a family practice and urgent care center that manages acute and chronic illnesses. Dr. Shabazz also has many years experience working as a Gastroenterologist specializing in digestive disorders, which includes but is not limited to liver disease in both the clinic and acute care setting.

In addition to practicing as a healthcare provider, she continues to care for imminently dying patients and participates in several community endeavors focusing on health education, injury and disease prevention and health maintenance.  She is a member of National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and a proud member of the Gulf Coast (MS) Chapter of Links, Inc.
