FEATURED BOOK QUOTES

"It almost felt like I was under attack from a ‘haint’ (a term from black folklore used to describe an evil spirit that paralyzes you in your sleep). But it wasn’t just an unknown spirit sitting on top of me holding me down. It was in my bones."

— SONIA MCCALLUM

"My mother was usually sharp-tongued and used her words to keep you in your place. But that day, her tone had softened, and I knew deep down what I really heard in her voice was fear."
